Well the day has finally come!!!! The wedding of Kilah and Keith!

Wedding Picture

After weeks of afternoon rain, the weather finally started to clear and all was warm and sunny. OK, it was really, really warm, but a beautiful day!

....let me back up a bit...

Upon waking on the day of the wedding, I rushed directly over to the house to begin final preparations of the cake (t-minus 8 hrs and counting). I had spent the previous day doing a practice run of the groom's cake, so today was the real thing! I cooked the cake and after cooling, Daffy began taking shape on the cake (t-minus 6 hrs and counting). I had also prepared a little green monster with hard icing and gumballs to go on the corner of the cake. After finishing Daffy, my mom and I began decorating the bride's cake (t-minus 4 hrs and counting).

Meanwhile, back at the ranch.... ok, in the back bedroom...my aunt is hemming the edges of the scarves to be worn by the bridesmaids. My brother and my husband are off to pick up the tux's. Everybody has there chores assigned and all is well...

Believe it or not, we get to the Arboretum at the designated time and now the real fun begins! We have to setup the cake, put out all the flowers, and get dressed in an hour and a half.

We are barely half dressed when the photographer shows up wanting to take pictures and the priest wants to discuss last minute details. They are told to wait outside, while we make ourselves decent... We quickly dress and the photographer comes in to take pictures. Meanwhile, my little sister arrives a little late due to traffic problems and proceeds to get dressed in the room next door. The only problem is that in order for the priest to get out he has to go through the room that my sister is now using as a changing room! So instead of meeting with the groom, the priest is now stuck in our room for a little longer. Meanwhile as my sister picks up her bouquet, some of the flowers fall out... All I could think was to grab the thread and needle to sew them into the base....it worked! :)

7:10pm and we file out of the room to begin the big walk down the lawn to the front! The guys look very handsome (slightly hot of course) and ready to go. The girls are all adjusting the scarves and agreeing on the correct way to hold the flowers as the music starts.

From here it's a piece of cake (at least for the rest of us)! Now comes the part where the bride and groom have to do all the work. My only part is to make sure to take her bouquet, arrange the train periodically, and...oh yeah... the ring! Of course, the groom's ring was way to big to fit on my finger, so I put it on with my wedding ring around it to keep it from falling off. As I'm standing up front, I figure I need to get the ring off before the last second. Of course it is so hot that my finger is slightly swollen and I'm fidgeting with my ring to get it off.... I don't think anybody really noticed...except for my sister (bridesmaid) standing behind me. Evidentally I was dipping the brides bouquet down as I struggled with the ring and she was worried that some of the flowers might fall off...so I hear whispering from behind me..."hold the flowers up"! Just in time, I get the ring loose and all is well. The wedding went perfectly and everybody swarmed the buffet line!

The Dallas Arboretum was really beautiful! They got married in front of the little waterfalls with colorful flowers hanging all around them. Then off in the background were rolling green lawns with the lake and a few sailboats gliding along. The musical entertainment was a string trio.

Circular tables were setup on the lawn with long white flowing table clothes and creeping little vines of flowers for the centerpiece. As everybody sat down to enjoy dinner and a drink, the sun began to set, a fiery orange ball falling behind the lake. Then as darkness set in, the fireflies came out to dance around the lawn.

As the hours passed, it came time for the first dance as man and wife!

Next was the good stuff... the cake and the toast of course!

Finally it was time for the guests of honor to depart in their chariot (limo) to be whisked away to a beautiful bed and breakfast.
